When it comes to the Chromebook, we are used to these being slim, light and cheap laptops that use the Google Chrome OS, which means using apps instead of software to go about your normal daily computer routines. However, this is about to change with the launch of the Chromebook Pixel. This is a Chromebook that thinks it is a laptop, the main difference being that there is a handy 32 GB SSD for storage, which could be for software or storage. The Chromebook Pixel is a lovely looking machine with sharp lines and some cool features not seen on a Chromebook before. The downside to this has to be the price, because it is about five times the cost of a normal Chromebook.

So, what does this rather expensive Chromebook Pixel have to offer? It comes with a 12.85 inch Gorilla Glass multi touch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio display offering a 2560 x 1700 of pixel resolutions. Naturally, this machine is going to be running the Google Chrome operating system, it is powered by the Intel Core i5 processor offering Dual Core 1.8 GHz performance and the graphics are coming from the Intel HD Graphics 4000 Integrated video card. There is a handy 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, 32 GB solid state drive (SSD) for on board storage and a massive One terabyte of Google Drive cloud storage for three years, after which the user will be expected to pay for this service.

Other features include the two standard style USB 2.0 ports, mini display port, SD & MMC card reader, Backlit Chrome keyboard, fully clickable etched glass trackpad and a built in HD web camera. The Chromebook is all about being online and for this there is the dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 for connecting to other devices. As for the size it measures up at 297.7 mm (W) x 224.6 mm (D) x 16.2 mm (H) and weighs in at around 3.35 lbs (1.52 kg) with the 59 Wh battery pack installed that Google say will offer the user up to 5 hours of active use. The base level Chromebook Pixel has a starting price of around $1,300 (£1,000) with 32 GB storage and Wi-Fi.
