(Before It's News)

Ubuntu seems to have its eye on ensuring itself an ubiquitous presence. It sees itself adding value not only with smartphones, but also to tablets.

Ubuntu for Tablets

Earlier today, Canonical showcased the Ubuntu Touch for tablets to the world. The latest version is built on the same core as the rest of the Linux range and is designed to allow for gesture navigation and voice activated controls with the interface. The ice cream on the cake is that as with the phone, you can also hook a keyboard and mouse up to it and voila you have transformed the tablet into a computer. Or even a media hub when connected to your TV. So this is no ordinary tablet we are talking about here. It’s a giant of a tablet.

The preview for developers will be unwrapped on Feb. 21 and will be accompanied by installation instructions for the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablet devices as also for the smartphones such as the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus. SDK the app development will also be updated simultaneously and will have support for tablet configurations.

Given the giant step forward this tablet has taken, one expects that it should not be long before a manufacturer launches it as its original operating system.
