Hi folks. Welcome to “Accessibility Minute”, your weekly look at Assisitive Technology—those clever tools and devices designed to help people who have difficulties with vision, mobility, hearing or other special needs.
Many of us remember Rosy the Robot from cartoon television years ago. We now live in a world in which robots are doing real work in our homes. This is especially true for people with some kinds of disabilities. The health care industry is feverishly developing robots to reduce the cost of attendant care as well as creating robotic limbs to assist people in picking up items and reaching things more independently. Not only are there cost implications of this kind of technology, but the ability to do things without relying on the availability of other people is a big boost in accessibility.
