(Before It's News)

According to a blog post released today by AT&T, the HTC One X will start to receive a nice update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean starting today. It isn’t quite the latest and greatest Android version, but with the HTC One launch right around the corner we don’t expect it to pack in everything just yet. It is far from bad news though and finally brings the device off Ice Cream Sandwich and gives stock users more Android goodness.

The post outlines some of the new features like Google Now, Changes in the notification display, ability to view full sms and mms messages in the notification window and a new countdown timer for the front-facing camera. This update will also enable the Isis mobile wallet system on the device. Which is still in trials in Austin and Salt Lake City and needs a new SIM card to use. You can also expect some new AT&T bloatware. They have included AT&T Locker to store photos, videos and documents in their cloud. AT&T DriveMode to help curb your texting while driving addiction by sending automatic messages to people when you and your vehicle are moving over 25MPH. Be sure to keep this off if you ride a bus or train as part of your commute. Finally, they also include AT&T Messages, which is a glorified inbox solution that groups your calls, texts and voice-mails in a single inbox.

On a side note, it would appear that Sense 4+ is still the UI version of choice for this update as well.

To check for the update you will want to do a few things. First, make sure your device is charged well over 50%, at least that is how it used to be. If it isn’t then it will force you to wait till it is to install it. Second, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi and have some time to download the update. Once you are all set, head to Settings > About Phone > Check for Updates. As usual, the update will roll out in stages, so don’t be to surprised if your friend gets it before you do.
