Most systems designed to stop texting while driving — such as TXTBlocker and cellCONTROL — do so by blocking text message signals when the phone is in a car. However, a new product called ORIGOSafe takes a different approach: unless your phone is plugged into the device, your car will not start.

In order for the car to start, drivers must insert their smartphone into the ORIGOSafe, which is installed in the vehicle’s center console. For those old enough to remember what an 8-track player looks like, the device looks very similar.
