Soon after Google introduced Google Play Movies in India, it has introduced YouTube video rentals and purchases for Indian consumers. Similar to Google Play Movies, the service is a based on pay to view model.
Is it any different from Google Play Movies?
It is almost similar to Google Play Movies with a few tweaks. First of all it does not require Android hardware to rent these movies which will be welcomed by many users. Another advantage of YouTube Movie service is that its movie offerings include ample regional content.
Users can choose from Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam and World cinemas. Finally, Google is syncing movie rentals and purchases between YouTube and Google Play. That means if you buy a movie on Play Store Movies, you can later watch it on YouTube and vice versa.
Pricing for renting the movies starts from Rs 50 while the cost would vary up to Rs 500, depending on the resolution quality and recent releases. Users have to start watching rented videos within 30 days and once they have started viewing, they have to finish watching within 48 hours. The rental period will expire after the stipulated time. No such restrictions, however, exist, for purchased videos.
The YouTube Rentals was originally launched as a beta and was available only to content owners in the US. YouTube rentals directly competes with Apple’s iTunes Store, Eros International’s Eros Now and Reliance Entertainment’s BigFlix. I think these upcoming movie rental services will be used by users who want to watch legitimately. Have you streamed movies from any of these services. Share with us
