Among several potential buyers IBM Corp. and EMC Corp. are closing in to acquire SoftLayer Technologies Inc.; a leading web hosting and database firm. Multiple sources confirm the possibility of a deal crossing the $2 billion mark.
The Dallas- Texas based IT infrastructure specialist firm has employed Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley to run the sale.
The buyout talks first got leaked by one of the valued clients of SoftLayer, AT&T which approached SoftLayer a few months ago outline exclusive plans for launching new cloud based services which SoftLayer specializes in.
Spokesmen for IBM, EMC, AT&T and SoftLayer, Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley declined to add anything to the matter.
