(Before It's News)

The newest addition to Google has come in the form of a compression algorithm, with a weird name, Zopfli. Zopfli, named after Swiss bread, is a compression algorithm that has emerged as a result of Google’s efforts to compress data into the smallest possible space. Mountain View has stated that the new program can create files that are 3 to 8 percent smaller than the Zlib feature.

But this comes at the cost of the CPU time needed to put everything in a package, which is about three times than normal. Though this does not sound efficient, if the unchanged decompression speeds are considered, then it is certainly a possible one. This new technology can be used in mobiles, where the static web components can be easily compressed and transferred. The faster loading, less effect on the battery and obviously a less bandwidth use will certainly be an added advantage.
