Since 2007, innovative organizations in the Pittsburgh Kids+ Creativity Network have been developing classes, workshops, events, activities, and pop-up programs that are remarkable learning experiences for children and youth. What has your organization created that’s worth sharing?
The Sprout Fund is offering grants of $7,500 to help Pittsburgh’s learning innovators compile their best recipes for learning into a digital cookbook that will help formal and informal educators remake learning in the Pittsburgh region – and across the world.
Sprout is requesting proposals from organizations interested in sharing and remixing their existing learning activities to create online instruction kits that will be free and openly available for the benefit of teachers and learners alike.
Criteria & Process
Proposals are encouraged from non-profit organizations operating innovative programs in formal educational settings, cultural institutions, or community-based informal learning environments. Priority will be given to proposals for learning experiences that focus on gaming & play, making, robotics & computer science, STEAM, and early childhood.
Eligible applications will target an audience of school-aged children, youth, and teens in neighborhoods & communities throughout the Pittsburgh region. Each organization can submit up to 3 applications for distinct learning experiences that, if supported, would be led by different staff members.
Selected organizations will:
Transform an existing learning experience into a digital “recipe”: Grantees will receive $5,000 to support working with The Sprout Fund and colleagues from other supported organizations to transform their lesson plan or learning guide into a new online offering hosted on remakelearning.org during the first 6-8 months of 2014.
Participate in a digital learning resource community: During the process of developing the digital resource, grantees can engage in a series of workshops and professional development opportunities related to online resource sharing, remixing, and collaboration.
Share the learning experience: All digital recipes will be made available to share and remix under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License
Remix, teach, and learn: Grantees will also be eligible to receive an additional $2,500 to test the cookbook prior to its public release by trying out one or more remixed learning experiences in 2014.
Deadline and Application Information
Proposals are due Friday, November 15, 2013 by 5pm. Proposal requirements, forms for download, and complete guidelines for submission can be found at www.sproutfund.org/apply/rfp/recipes-for-learning/
