(Before It's News)

snapdragon 410We’ve known 64-bit processors have been coming to smartphones for some time now, thanks to the release of the iPhone 5S with its partially Samsung-made 64-bit processor, and today, Qualcomm has fulfilled that prophecy, though it might not be the processor you were expecting. I’m sure most of us expected Qualcomm’s first 64-bit processor to be a Snapdragon over-9000 featuring world-ending processing power, however, Qualcomm has actually announced the Snapdragon 410, an update to its low-end processor, the Snapdragon 400. Its aim is not only to bring 64-bit processing to the smartphone (and by extension, Android) world, but also to provide LTE support to ‘emerging regions’.

While this will likely remain Qualcomm’s low-end processor, expected to be in phones costing around $150 USD, it does bring a whole suite of improvements which make it a scintillating addition to its lineup. The Snapdragon 410 will use an Adreno 306 GPU for improved graphics and will also allow 1080p video playback as well as supporting cameras up to 13-megapixel.

Judging by how impressive the Motorola Moto G was with just a Snapdragon 400, the Snapdragon 410 could change the low-end smartphone landscape when it is eventually launched. What do you think about the introduction of 64-bit processors? Let us know in the comments.
