Yahoo is continuing its shopping spree with another acquisition. This time the company has bought the online platform for live concerts, Evntlive, for an undisclosed amount.
“We are thrilled to announce that EVNTLIVE has been acquired by Yahoo! When we started EVNTLIVE in early 2012, we set out to change the way that fans engage with live music online by creating an interactive, virtual venue. Since launching our beta service in April 2013, we have live streamed hundreds of performances from amazing artists and festivals to fans all over the world“, Evntlive announced in a company blog post.
Launched in April this year, Evntlive will shut down as a result of the acquisition and join the Yahoo team. The startup was actually founded in 2012 and then launched in beta in 2012, before its official launch in 2013. Evntlife which broadcasts live concerts and events to online viewers also secured $2.3 million in seed funding from investors last year. Besides live concerts, Evntlive also streamed artist interviews and music videos and boasted of various interactive features.
Evntlive is Yahoo’s second acquisition in a row which shows the company’s interest in strengthening its video technology. Yahoo acquired Ptch, a mobile-video start-up that was incubated by DreamWorks last week. Also, this latest acquisition comes just weeks after Yahoo hired high-profile TV news anchor Katie Couric to be its ‘global anchor.’
However, and it remains to be seen how Yahoo will use the talent it has acquired.
