Snapdeal which is looking forward to secure $150 million in its next round of funding, has rolled out Hindi and Tamil interface to its website. The move comes from the popular online marketplace with an aim to attract a certain type of audience which is not comfortable with shopping in English.
“Our aim is to make our customers’ transaction experience as comfortable as possible. We are doing this in multiple ways”, said Ankit Khanna, vice president of product management at Snapdeal in the report. Launched in 2010 by Rohit Bansal and Kunal Bahl , Snapdeal announced that it will add Kannada, Telegu, Bengali and Marathi options to the website as well. The online marketplace which is aiming $1 billion sales by March 15, also stated that its mobile site and apps will also be available in regional languages in a few months.
Snapdeal.com now boasts a Choose Language tab on the website that lets users select the language of there choose. The online marketplace expects a 20 per cent increase in traffic from the local language addition. Khanna added that 50% of Snapdeal’s sales come from smaller cities and towns.
In the past, lifestyle e-com site Yepme had gone multilingual but later abandoned it. However, now it is reportedly looking at a re-launch of the platform in different languages.
