Bigcommerce, a SaaS ecommerce platform has expanded its operations in India. The US based start-up enables businesses to launch online stores in a simple manner.
Founded by Eddie Machaalaniin and Mitchell Harper in 2009, Bigcommerce already has over 50,000 online stores using their platform around the world. For, their India launch, the company has partnered with Mumbai based eRetail technology and marketing specialists Iksula. The platform mostly helps entrepreneurs and small businesses to get their business online.
Commenting on the development, Eddie Machaalani, Co-Founder and CEO, Bigcommerce said, “The e-commerce market in India has grown by 34 per cent in the last seven years. It was about US$600 million in 2011-12, is expected to touch US$9 billion by 2016, and US$70 billion by 2020.”
There are about 40 million SMBs in the country that employ 1,000 or less people. But it’s the small businesses that head online that will fuel the next phase of rapid growth,” said S“Indian small businesses have been crying out for a powerful, affordable, and easy to use e-commerce platform that can support their online store as they grow and Bigcommerce provides this.”
BuildBazaar and Shopify which entered India last year are similar players in this market.
