Iceland Drills Into Magma For Renewable Energy (Video)

(N.Morgan) In the never ending quest for renewable energy, the world’s first magma-based geothermal energy system has been built in Iceland, taking advantage of the Earth’s heat to generate electricity. This is only the second time researchers have been bale to drill into a magma bubble. The first magma bubble drilled was in Hawaii.
Preparations were made to connect the steam output to a nearby electrical plant in Krafla in Northeast Iceland, but then the hole had to be closed after a valve failure. Nonetheless, the Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP) believes that it can reopen the hole, 2.1 kilometers below the surface.
It also plans to drill a second borehole in the Reykjanes peninsula in the southwest of the country. “The experiment at Krafla suffered various setbacks and tried personnel and equipment throughout,” wrote the IDDP in a news post. “However, the process itself was very instructive, and… comprehensive reports on practical lessons learned are nearing completion.” “The success of this drilling and research is amazing to say the least, and could in the near future lead to a revolution in energy efficiency in high-temperature geothermal areas of the world”

these are the same people that told the IMF to piss-off, arrested all the criminal bankers and even there own president for his part in banking fraud. They found tat 90%of there nations debt was I lie and the banks where robbing them. I wonder what we would find if we did the same. These are some smart people and they got some balls, unlike some other countries.
The problem is the only thing that big businesses focus on in profits. Even if the government for the people and by the people was in charge of this, they’re so inclined to do what benefits them and NOT the people….

I thought BP hit magma or close in the Gulf of Mexico. This was the cause of their catastrophe. Russia had done this a couple of times (on land) with the same results and had even warned BP against drilling to such depths.
