(Before It's News)

After extending support of MS Office to Apple’s iOS sporting iPhone last year, Microsoft (MS) is finally offering the same courtesy to large–screened iPads.

Tech giant Microsoft was rumored to have been working on MS Office Apps for both iPhones and iPads, but the company only released the same for iPhones leaving iPad owners disappointed. Nonetheless, the rumor-mills did not stop supporting the idea of a full–fledged MS Office app for iPad and multiple release dates were speculated.

iPad owners were never without MS Office. Microsoft does have HTML5 as well as Cloud based Web Apps that easily offer the MS Office experience for the iPad user. But the assurance of a dedicated offline app is hard to beat. Though Microsoft never admitted openly, development on Office for iPad has both continued and been sped up in order to bring it to market fairly soon.

Interestingly, multiple sources claimed that MS Office for iPad is set to be released in synchronization with Microsoft’s first version of a touch-centric Office for Windows 8. However, the launch may take place as soon as coming July.  Essentially this means Microsoft Office may reach the iPad before Windows Tablets!

Why is MS Office so important to iPad users? The appeal of MS Office Productivity suite is nearly impossible to beat. After Windows Operating System, the next popular product from Microsoft has to be MS Office. Though the company hasn’t offered exact figures it has sold hundreds of millions of licenses of the various iterations of the Office Productivity Suite.

More importantly, Google’s Android especially for tablets, which too is rival to Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS, doesn’t have MS Office directly from the stables of the Redmond–based company. This makes the possibility of having a full–fledged Office suite from MS a very important consideration for consumers who intend to use the iPad as a productivity tool too. What do you think?
