Retired Government Employees as well as Right To Information (RTI) applicants have a strong reason to rejoice as both the procedures are about to get significant boost via the digital route.
Pension applications online: Pensions have for quite some time; been released via the online route. eBanking has been the choice of transfer. However, Pensions start only after all the prior procedures are completed via the physical route and that usually takes a long time.
But soon these procedures too will take place via the digital route. Department of Pension & Pensioners’ have launched a web based pension sanction and payment tracking system ‘Bhavishya’. The system is being designed to capture, store and use information relating to the pensioner’s personal and service data including contact details like mobile number and e-mail. The platform will have the ability to serve and accept forms in Electronic format (e–Forms) and send out updates via SMS as well as e–mail.
Pensions have always been a pain point for the Government as well as its retired employees. But, the application will help in monitoring the delays which take place in sanction of pension and retirement benefits to a retiring Government Servant, shared the Government.
RTI Payment via e–IPO gets extended to Indians living in India: In March last year, the Government had initiated a revolutionary project that allowed applying for Right To Information (RTI) through the Internet. RTI is a very powerful tool in the hands of ordinary citizens, using which they can gain inside information about Government Procedures and their various aspects like Time, Budget, etc.
But ironically, the Digital route was restricted to Indian citizens living abroad. Indian citizens living in the country had to manually purchase the Postal Orders from Head and branch post offices or army post offices. Now, the Online Option for filing RTI Application and paying for the same via E-Indian Postal Order (e-IPO) service has been extended to individuals residing in the country.
e–Governance capabilities are growing rather nicely but the only question is what will the Indian Government do to educate the citizens about these facilities? What do you think?
