Program the Future: The Accenture Technology Campus Challenge Winners

Here are the winners of Accenture Philippines’ Program the Future Technology Campus Challenge. Launched last December, the competition gathered IT, Computer Science and Engineering students from different schools and universities to design and develop mobile applications that will help improve the Philippines’ education system.

Nine teams – four (4) teams from De De La Salle University (DLSU), two (2) teams from University of Sto. Tomas (UST), two (2) teams from Mapua Institute of Technology (Mapua) and one (1) team from the University of the Philippines (UP) – Diliman showcased their coding skills during the interschool competition. Each team is composed of three students and one faculty adviser.

All teams were required to submit their entries, consisting of five-minute concept video/storyboard showing how their app can help improve the country’s education system, and the source code.

A panel of judges that includes Accenture’s top executives and key officials from DOST, DepEd and CHED chose the top 5 mobile app based on design and user experience (40 percent), technical design, innovation and implementation (40 percent), and relevance to the theme (20 percent).

The top 5 teams get to take home the following prizes:

  • Grand Champion – Trophy and Apple MacBook 13” or Php 200,000 worth of gadgets, and Php 50,000 for the school
  • 1st Runner-up – Trophy, IdeaPad Yoga 13” Convertible Ultrabook or Php 150,000 worth of gadgets
  • 2nd Runner-up – Trophy and Php 100,000 worth of gadgets).
  • 4th and 5th finalists – Honorable Mention, and Php 50,000 worth of gadgets each
  • Special People’s Choice award - To the mobile application that tops the public voting on Facebook and the campus roadshows.

JuanderLab is an app that aims to revolutionize the way Chemistry is taught, through a virtual laboratory.

After being named the competition’s Grand Champion, Team CodeUP had this to say to inspire fellow students:

Funimals is an app that aims to develop children’s reading skills through a story-telling-based application downloaded on tablets and phones. Users can create, read, save and view new stories in a fun way. Kids can also listen to the voice narrative (“story-telling feature”) and learn new vocabulary.
