Amazon has rolled out EMI schemes for its Kindle Tablets. Kindle e-reader, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and Kindle Fire HD tablets are available in three, six, nine and 12-month EMI plans in India. The EMI facility is being offered on all Kindle devices along with a limited-period special price for the new generation Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi) and the basic Kindle 6-inch model, valid till 15th April 2014.
Customers can avail EMI options from any of the following three banks – CitiBank, HDFC and ICICI Bank and if they wish to buy offline, the offer can be availed from 9 banks. The Kindle can be bought for Rs 500 every month, and a Kindle Paperwhite by paying Rs 900, under this EMI schemes from Amazon.
Amazon which entered India last year, is also reducing the price for the two devices under a promotional offer. The New Gen Paperwhite will be priced at Rs. 10,080 against its original price of Rs. 10,999 and the basic Kindle model will be priced at Rs. 5,600 as against the original price of Rs. 5,999. These special prices on Kindle are valid till April 15, 2014.
Kindle Paperwhite was announced in India earlier in January this year and the devices went on sale in the country from February. E-readers have still failed to become popular in India as compared to tablets mainly due its high price. EMI schemes have been successful in India in the past for Apple and Samsung and hence such promotional offers will help Amazon ramp up its sales for e-readers. Last year, Canadian company Kobo also launched its range of e-readers and tablets in India.
