In order to compete with other popular instant messaging platforms, Hike Messenger has received funding worth $14 million from Bharti Soft Bank (BSB). The funding will be used to expand the messenger’s operations across globe. Hike had previously received $7 million from BSB in April last year when the app was also received 2.0 update on various mobile platforms.
Hike which competes with other established players like WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, Viber and others recently crossed 15 million user mark. Developed by (BSB), a 50-50 partnership between India’s Bharti Telecom and Japan’s Softbank telecom provide in 2012, Hike is available for free on iOS, Android, BlackBerry (beta), Windows Phone and S40 devices.
About 60% of hike’s user base comes from India and the rest global led by Middle East and Europe. Social mobile messaging usage tripled in 2013 with rising use of smartphones and internet, according to a recent Flurry’s report. The instant messaging platform space is getting crowded owing to a great demand of such messengers. Today, there are leaders like Whats App and WeChat that are offering more features to the service in order to maintain the lead. Also, new players like Telegram and Hike are paving their way to attract users and offer features that will force them to shift to their platform.
