Greencart, which sells fresh fruits and vegetables online, has raised US$ 1.5 Million from Techno Group.

The funds will be utilized in expanding operations and distribution channels. Additionally, the company is keen to enhance its supplier base to bolster its sourcing network.

Greencart claims to offer more than 1,500 products in over thirty categories. The Mumbai based company, founded by Rajiv Tevtiya, Kiran Tevtiya and Devidas Mule switched–on the portal last year.

The portal is part of a rising segment that has apparently been received well in the tier I cities owing to the door–step convenience and assurance of quality at competitive prices. In order to stand out among the crowd Greencart makes some strong promises.

Greencart fresh products come with an adulteration free assurance and maintain international standards of freshness and hygiene. They are handled in a relatively dust free atmosphere and are exposed to minimum human touch, thereby reducing the risk of contamination, claims the company. Speaking about the platform, founder Tevtiya said,

In addition to the guaranteed freshness, almost all our fruits and vegetables are graded as export quality, premium, standard, etc. This helps the consumers understand the difference between two products in the same category. Also, the accurate gradation will enable the consumers to derive full value from their purchase,”

Additionally, the company has cleverly realized the need of city dwelling residents to experiment with exotic ingredients and accordingly stocks items like asparagus, blue berries and kumquat nagamis; international and gourmet food items; groceries and imported packaged food; olives, oil and assorted vinegars. It appears domestic fruits and vegetables are pretty elementary in comparison. The platform currently delivers across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Thane, but will soon be available in other cities depending on the response.

Online grocery shopping has been growing rather well. Looking at the spread, it appears Greencart is attempting to tap the relatively wealthier class who want to try out new recipes with foreign ingredients. What do you think?
