Addicted To Retail (ATR) presents: Stealth Shopping Plaza in Rome by LAD.
Francesco Napolitano of Italian architecture and design office LAD has shared photographs of ‘the stealth’, a realized shopping center and plaza in Rome. Shaped like a Mastaba, a type of ancient Egyptian tomb, the flat-roofed structure features outward sloping sides clad in titanium-zinc. The design echoes the natural slopes found in the region’s terrain, establishing a synthesis between architecture and the environment. Access inside the truncated pyramid is found behind panels which fold upwards from the building’s façade, providing a sense of security and protection when not in use.
