Sharif’s US Trip Spoiled With India Arms Buildup; Obama Refuses Interfere; Urges Pak Avoid Raising Nuke Tensions

The major arms buildup of India has forced Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to say in a speech to the US Institute of Peace in Washington the country will be taking countermeasure to deter against any attacks.
He said India has refused to talk on Kashmir and has adopted dangerous military doctrines compelling them to take measures in preserving credible deterrence.
Earlier this year in August the foreign secretary-level talks were cancelled and thereafter the ceasefire violations were increased by India across the Line of Control (LoC), said Sharif without defining the countermeasure.
However, US President Barack Obama urged Sharif to avoid developments of nuclear weapons as it may risk further instability. He also ruled out interfering into the peace process of the two countries unless both jointly ask for it.
The US too is concerned on new nuclear weapon development of Pakistan. Obama said he is trying to persuade Sharif to make a unilateral declaration of restraint knowing Pakistan would not accept the limit to its weapons program and argue they need smaller tactical nuclear to deter a sudden attack by India.
The tensions between India and Pakistan are to be properly addressed and to be done through dialogues, said US State Department spokesman Mark Toner.
