Smith Electric Vehicles Corporation, which once dominated the electric truck industry news with its delivery truck options, has been financially struggling for more than a year. During that time, they have failed to make rent payments on their assembly facility at the airport operated by the Kansas City Aviation Department. To the tune of $543,345 so far.
Smith Electric suspended operations “temporarily” about a year ago, citing financial difficulties and pending “new investment.” The company has occupied the airport space since 2009, but fell behind on rent last year and then again failed to keep agreements as of this spring.
