Belgium capital Brussels is on the highest level of terrorism alert with heavily armed security forces patroling the city and subways have been shut down, likely until Sunday evening.
According to crisis centre of government, the alert is of ‘Level Four,’ means “serious and immediate threat.”
Prime Minister Charles Michel said the government has precise information about Paris-like attacks could take place in the city. Several individuals equipped with heavy arms and explosives could launch similar attacks in several places of the city.
Briefing to the press Saturday morning the PM urged people not to panic with the alert as they have taken all the necessary measures to keep the city safe.
According to interior minister Jan Jambo, the situation is under their control.
Brussels has the population of more than one million and it also houses key offices of EU and Nato.
The people are advised not to attend concerts, major events and commercial districts. They are also suggested to avoid huge gatherings like airports and train stations.
The professional soccer games set to be held this weekend is also being recommended cancellation by the government. Other major events are also urged for the same.
Meanwhile, searching for an escaped suspect of Paris attacks, Salah Abdeslam, is under process.
