Door eight
Mount Snowdon was, of course, a popular entry to our photo competition! Wales’ highest mountain has been shaped by glaciation, and is popular with geologists and climbers alike. The mountain was used by Edmund Hillary in training for his 1953 ascent of Everest.
Our favourite entry was this beautiful image from Eoin Reddin, showing Snowdon reflected against the Llynnau Mymbyr lakes.

“I’m currently a final year Earth and Ocean Science student from the National University of Ireland Galway, and took the photo while carrying out my undergraduate mapping project around Capel Curig in August” says Eoin.
“One morning we set off to map the flanks of Moel Siabod, and as we were crossing the Plas-y-Brenin bridge, I noticed that Snowdon looked stunning reflected against the Llynnau Mymbyr lakes, and snapped the picture with my smartphone. I think it was the first day rain clouds weren’t obscuring our view of Snowdon!”
