On December 10, Walmart entered the Mobile Payments space in a big way by announcing Walmart Pay. And as you’re guessing, its Walmart’s version of Samsung/Apple Pay & Google Wallet. Their up-sell is offering a Walmart loyalty solution and ease of checkout. As their customer base becomes more mobilized, they’re hoping adoption gains speed. Another boast is being the only retailer to offer its own mobile pay solution that works on both iOS and Android, and at any checkout lane. Debit, pre-paid, Gift, and all major credit cards are supported, all as a part of their Walmart mobile app. Rollout begins now, and will be completed nationwide by end of the first half of the year.
With an Open App, Scan Code, Get Receipt process, their hoping friction will be low at the checkout line. Twenty-two million users already use their mobile app monthly, meaning Walmart may be strategically placed to become the biggest Mobile Wallet on the market.
