The other products of Google under 1 billion user club are Chrome, Android, Search, Play, YouTube and Maps.

The official Gmail Twitter account tweeted earlier today, “Thanks a billion for helping us make Gmail better and better!”

About four years ago Gmail become the most sought after email service and the Android app for Gmail hit 1 billion installs in May 2014. Last year in May the company announced the emailing platform has reached 900 million active users mark.

Google launched Gmail beta in 2004 and by 2009 the service ceased to be called as beta. Now the service is synonymous with users and businesses alike.

The announcement coincided with Facebook-owned WhatsApp too. The platform revealed to have reached the milestone of 1 billion active users.

WhatsApp recently announced to make the platform completely free and stop further charging an annual fee of $0.99 from users. However, it is yet to see how it makes revenue.
