With over eight million Raspberry Pi units (and rapidly counting) floating around in garages, classrooms and pockets around the world, the $35 System on a Chip continues to be one of the best learning tools for those interested in software and hardware development since it was introduced four years ago.

Today, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is celebrating four successful years with the launch of their new $35 Raspberry Pi 3 Model B board – the most powerful Raspberry Pi to date.

While diehard Raspberry Pi fans will be quick to note the 64bit 1.2GHz quad-core chipset and 1GB RAM (which combined are expected to give a 50 percent power over the Pi 2), the most prominent new features are the inclusion of built-in wireless LAN and Bluetooth. Previously, these capabilities were only available with external dongles which were both pricey and sacrificed valuable space.

According to Raspberry Pi founder Eben Upton, the Foundation worked closely with Microsoft on the new board to allow full compatibility with Windows 10 IoT for users looking to take full advantage of the $35 device in building out a hub of connected devices.

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B can purchased starting today over at element14 and RS Components.
