At the F8 event this year Facebook is speculated to be announcing chatbots for its Messenger app.
Prior to the update of latest version of Facebook’s chat app, a particular category was named just “Businesses.” In the updated version it is named as “Bots and Businesses.”
“Businesses” was simply a listing of companies that users can message for general inquiries and customer support. It will involve speaking to a human. Messaging in the updated version of the app will give a more automated experience, something similar to chatting to a phone tree.
Some of examples to mention here are the bots function of Lyft, Uber and KLM that allows booking with just a few keypresses.
Meanwhile, it is also rumored the Messenger chatbot experience would not be limited to just businesses. Publishers may get in on chatbot train too offering breaking news.
If believed to a report published on Techcrunch, a Chat SDK of sorts have been seeded out to some developers with instructions how to build Messenger chatbots.
For more information on the upcoming Messenger chatbot need to wait for the F8 keynote annual event today at 10 a.m. PT/ 1 p.m. ET.
