As anybody who has worked freelance knows, getting the actual client work done is only half the battle; the other half is spent doing boring but necessary office administration tasks including account management, expenses and of course, time tracking. Thankfully, a number of Cloud-based solutions have helped streamline these tasks to put more actual work time into our pockets – but what if documenting these menial business management tasks could somehow be “fun”?
The ZEIº from new hardware startup Timeular just might be the solution.
Inspired by their own frustrations with time tracking software and management tools, the product designers and engineers behind the ZEIº developed the wireless polyhedron so that users can assign a project to each face and document time spent on each task just by flipping the device.
“Time tracking at work is an annoying duty. It’s bothersome and time-consuming but many companies and freelancers still have to do it.”
When used with existing time tracking platforms including Toggl, Harvest, Wunderlist, Timeneye, Timely and more, the device automatically switches the timer to fit the corresponding task – making it perfect for those who switch between work from multiple clients consistently throughout the day. Even more impressive, a quick shake of the ZEIº opens a text field or a project’s to-do list in order to add details to each of the specific time entries. Each of these 8 activities can be graphically customized on each side the device and swapped out with another activity at any time.
Says the team:
“Time tracking at work is an annoying duty. It’s bothersome and time-consuming but many companies and freelancers still have to do it. As engineers and designers, we were tracking our time at work but, found that it is not easy to do, even if there are many good solutions out there. We believed there had to be a better solution than just some software with a lot of interactions. That’s why we put our heads together, pooled our experience and knowledge and came up with ZEIº — and the best thing is, we are not trying to create a completely new time tracking solution, we make existing ones more user-friendly with simple and intuitive hardware.”
Currently, the startup is wrapping up some manufacturing order details but hopes to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the device within the next few months. Although the price is not final yet, they are hoping to have it retail for about $99 – with early backers on Kickstarter getting a significant discount.
