In a new study it is found a better technology of battery-making may offer energy sources to last about 400 times longer than usual.
The new technology is learned to be using a nanowire-based material that is capable of getting recharged for thousands of times. This mean in future battery replacement may not be needed.
It is reported the nanowires are tiny conductors and its thin structure is perfect in battery-making production. It has high conductivity too.
However, it is also true the nanowire-based batteries are fragile and incapable to endure periodic recharging, discharging and cycling.
In the latest research it is found if a gold nanowire is enveloped in a manganese oxide and it seems the problems have been solved.
Senior study author Reginald Penner said the discovery is useful in providing commercial batteries.
Details of the study are published in the American Chemical Society’s Energy Letters yesterday.
