Addicted To Retail (ATR) presents: #ThrowbackThursday – BBC/Ice Cream Store from 2007 in Hong Kong.
I remember walking into this flagship or should I say aboard this spaceship during my first trip to China and being transported to another world piloted by Nigo (Tomoaki Nagao) and long time collaborator Masamichi Katayama (my idol).
The comical and humorous exterior with a rocket ready for take-off and a circular entrance way is what drew attention to this “new” space in an old building. The first two floors of the shop were occupied by ICE CREAM™, and the upper two floors were for BBC (Billionaire Boys Club). The usage of 2-D design is an important element in both spaces. An ordinary Ice Cream parlor that may exist here in the U.S. is what was envisioned for ICE CREAM™, and the theme for BBC is outer space, which is also the concept for the brand.
