About 26,000 more votes paved the rosy path of Yogi Adityanath to become the top leader in Uttar Pradesh.

Born as Ajay Singh Negi, the new Chief Minister of the state made a dramatic entry in public life about 23 years ago in Gorakhpur when couple of students had a brawl with a cloth merchant who reacted taking out revolver at them. The next day saw a huge rally of protesters led by a young priest, who shot to fame immediately as angry young man in Purvanchal politics. The youth was Yogi Adityanath.

The new CM of Uttar Pradesh completed his graduation in 1994 from Uttarakhand in science when he was 22 and was initiated by head priest at Goraksh Nath temple in Gorakhpur.

At the age of 21 he renounced his family and became a disciple of Mahant Avaidyanath at the temple. In September 2014 he became Mahant of Guru Gorakhnath Temple after the death of his guru.

In the 12th Lok Sabha he was the youngest member in the house. He was just 26 then. Since then he has been elected to all the terms from Gorakhpur to the Parliament. The election years were 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.

Yogi led ‘purification drive’ in 2005 and converted 1,800 Christians to Hinduism in the town of Etah of Uttar Pradesh.
