(Before It's News)

Well, I’m still trying to recover from the blow I got on Saturday.  My farm shadow, Sonya, ran out in the road and got hit by a pickup truck.  Poor Grizz is lost and depressed.  I’m not too happy about it myself.  The dog makes this years large animal loss at 7.  That’s hard to take.  This is the worst year I have ever had on this farm.

My dampened spirits weighed pretty heavy all weekend and I really needed an ear with a big heart.  Lucky for me I found Bane to listen to my woes cheer me up.  Thanks Bane!

I spent 7 hours cleaning up the now empty (yah right) daughters bedroom.  My son had been using it as a dumping ground for the junk that wouldn’t fit in his own room.  The bad part about it was 95% of it was junk and needed thrown away.  8 garbage bags later and I have myself a spot I can set my sewing machine up in and get back to my favorite winter pastime.  Quilting time!  Yep, I have a couple from 3 or 4 years ago I still haven’t finished and the quilt on my bed is getting a bit raggedy (one I bought off ebay cheap).  I have a vision in my head of a nice log cabin pattern in earth tones made with flannels if I can find them.  I have a long way to go before I can make my first stitch since everything has been in boxes for a few years and I’ll need to find my quilting foot and my regular stitching foot which both seem to be not with the machine. Eh, something to occupy me since the gardens are all dead now.

Heavy frost over night here!  The floors are a bit cold since the ventless fireplace burner decided to crap out on me.  The darn gas valve is stuck and it’s non replaceable.  I knew last year i was going to need to replace it since I had to beat it to death to make it work.  Well, I just never had the funds.  Such is life tho.

The Gurneys spring catalog has come and it’s got me all fired up already.  What always fires me up is the fruit trees.  I’m still without an orchard because of the 2009 inland hurricane.  Unless I win the lottery, I don’t see the funds for that coming by springtime.  I had banked a little on the birth of puppies that won’t be coming now and the 2 goat kids won’t be enough to cover what I need to replace.
Samey same around here, eh?  LOL  The well laid plans of mice and men.

Heh, I can’t complain too much, I made it thru the summer all by myself (with a little help from a friend or 2, Thank you again Richard for your continued support)
and I’m still fighting.  Even with the drought and the thieving neighbors, I’ll still make it thru winter well fed.  I could probably not suffer from a missed meal or 2 anyway, LOL so I’m in darn good shape coming into winter.

The property taxes finally showed up in the mail and they’re due the first and third week of December.  Gee thanks county tax assessor.  Good thing my kids are grown.

Time to dig out and brush off the barn coat for chores.  It’s a bit nippy out there this morning!
