(Before It's News)

Last night I tackled a huge, much needed project at the house. I started deep cleaning my kitchen. It was absolutely exhausting! I spent about 3 hours tackling my fridge, freezer, and cabinets. I think breaking this massive project into more manageable chunks is really the way to go.
My freezer in the kitchen is basically used for things we eat often. I keep my freezer meals in our large freezer in the garage. I like keeping my frozen fruits and veggies in the kitchen so that I’m more likely to use them. Last night I took everything out of the freezer and just piled it on the stove since it was next to the fridge.
I emptied the ice and washed it out very well. Then I started wiping down all surfaces in the freezer. Remember to work quickly since your frozen stuff is just sitting out!
After I dried my cleaning product off, I started putting everything back in. Now is a great opportunity to go through everything and get rid of things that have freezer burn or are out of date. I keep my current weekly meals on the top shelf of our freezer. I also put the items that Ryan and Caleb snack on often on the top as well. That way Ryan knows right where to go and doesn’t mess up my organized freezer!
On the bottom, I store my extra baking supplies, a few frozen soups for quick meals, and our large Thanksgiving turkey!
In the door, I put the frozen veggies in the top rack and frozen fruits in the bottom. I know exactly what I have each time I look in the freezer.
This is a super easy project that anyone can tackle with about twenty minutes of time.
Next I moved the fridge out so I could clean behind and under it. I wiped off the top and cleared all the clutter from it. I wiped down the wall behind the fridge and wiped the dust off the cords. These areas can get super dirty! I wiped the back of the fridge down as well. Now is a great time to wipe any cabinets or appliance sides next to the fridge!
After moving it back, I took everything out of the fridge. If it was out of date or we just plain didn’t use it, I got rid of it. Now is the time to make room for upcoming holiday meals. I do a lot of food prep in advance and I don’t have time to make room in an overfull fridge while I’m getting meals ready. If you do it now, it will really save you a whole lot of time and energy!
Before my mama starts getting onto me about the lack of food in our fridge, let me put her mind at ease! I am not stock piling food right now. I am making room for all the leftovers that accumulate this time of year. When I make my weekly meal plans, I buy just what we need for that week. I need all of the fridge space we can get right now. I’ve also found that this cuts down on wasted leftovers as well. In turn, I save money!
My OCD self has to turn all the labels I can towards the front…. My sweet husband laughs at me!
I have a specific place in my kitchen for all of Ryan and Caleb’s junk food snacks. This is before I tackled it:
I organized our canned goods as well and got rid of anything out of date. I grouped like items together. For some reason I have a lot of canned tomatoes. Now is a good time to wipe down the interior of your cabinets.
I also organized my baking items, noodles, and teas.
I am so relieved this task is behind me! I know exactly what I have on hand with an organized kitchen. I know when I need to pick something up and don’t overspend on things I already have.
