Here is a story coming out of CNN that identifies the twitter account holder name ComfortablySmug. This twitter account was one of the many who were delivering emergency news broadcasts to the world during the destructive Hurricane Sandy. However I have personally reviewed some of his tweets and found them to have been unfounded, when he was publishing them.
Issuing information like this could have been destructive and this is where personal responsibility comes into play. One of his tweets was about the NY Governor Cuomo being trapped in NYC. Weather or not this was true, the fact of reporting it becomes a security issue for the security detail and the governor.
You have to have some common sense when you use the internet or social media. Personally I was asked by some of my followers to confirm stories regarding political figures and I flat out refused. That is the type of information for the political debaters to argue about and analysis for months to come.
When you serve as an emergency broadcaster, regardless of the media you choose to use, the general public look to you for information that can affect their lives, so you must keep that in your mind at all times and respect that authority .
This man, in my humble opinion, if proven that he gave false information knowingly should be prosecuted.
Since I do also act in this capacity I want to re ensure my followers that as you can already tell from all my reports, I try my best to give you accurate information. I verify 99% of all information that I disperse. I have also giving my opinion but I also state that it is my opinion at those times. This way you know if you believe differently, then by all means let’s talk about it and let’s see who can change whose opinion.
I also post a warning one all my releases, and you will even find it at the end of this post, Remember: Research everything before you believe anything. That is not just a saying, you must look at all sources on the internet nowadays. Some you can trust, some are untrustworthy. That is up to the individuals to determine. That includes Common Sense Preparedness. Research everything I say or post. Believe me I have been wrong before (just ask my wife!). However I try to give you verifiable information on a continual basis and hopefully it will motivate you to learn or at least inform yourself with some type of knowledge.
Please be careful of what you believe out there, know your sources, especially if you are depending on the information.
