(Before It's News)

7473015318 55d1971090 o The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 41 Backdoor SurvivalWelcome to this week’s Sunday Survival Buzz – a roundup of preparedness news, tips, articles and recommendations from around the web. But first, an update on my own preps.

And a busy week it was.  Shelly (Survival Husband) wanted me to learn how to handle the AR-15.  So I tried but it is very heavy and difficult for me so my guess is that I will not be learning to shoot this particular firearm.  That said, we ordered 1000 shells of 223 ammo from Lucky Gunner while the going is good.  One thing I did notice is the price of 223 ammo seems to be going up up up.

This week I also received my order from Harbor Freight.  The shelving I purchased ($6.99 flat shipping for the entire order – 4 big boxes) arrived and needs to be assembled but check out the cool welding gloves I got to use when working with fires and the fire pit.8235691445 0f879ab6c9 o The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 41 Backdoor Survival

Then there was the saga of the Pressure Canner.  I ordered one – finally – but it was too large and would not fit under my over-the-range microwave.  So if this is something on your bucket list, measure first and if necessary, opt for the 16 quart version rather than the 23-quart version that I purchased.

Okay, enough about me.  Let’s get on to the Sunday Survival Buzz.

Survival News & Articles from Around the Web

Is Animal Cruelty Doomed?:  In one of history’s most stunning victories for humane farming, Australia’s largest supermarket chain, Coles, will as of January 1 stop selling company branded pork and eggs from animals kept in factory farms. As an immediate result, 34,000 mother pigs will no longer be kept in stalls for long periods of their lives, and 350,000 hens will be freed from cages.

Rebuttal to “Preppers are Socially Selfish”:  A recent article titled Doomsday Preppers are Socially Selfish got the goat of many of us ordinary preppers.  Yes, the Doomsday Preppers are a bit out there but still, their intentions are good and they still can teach the rest of us a thing or two along the way.  David Nash at TNG Gun wrote a rebuttal that shows this article as the fraud that it is.  Read it and pass it on.

The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 41 Backdoor SurvivalHow government lies about the economy: As if we need to be reminded.

12 ‘Let’s Get Real’ Facts About Canola Oil:  You do not need to be a food activist (like me), to be interested in the truth about canola oil.  We have switched to olive oil and peanut oil in my household.  Luckily we do not have a peanut allergy and do not use peanut oil when guests are invited to share a meal.

One of those WOW! moments

A reader sent this to me.

This is the new “wear your seatbelt” ad the UK is doing – started by some guy not hired to do it, but because the cause is important to him, he came up with this idea, and now it’s being hailed across the world as a “beautiful” commercial. Without a single word, it says it all.

And now the video has become so popular with the general public that people are forwarding it to friends/family on their own so quickly that it has spread all over the world in a very short time.

Check out this remarkable ad.

The Survival Woman On the Air

Last week I was a guest on the Destiny Survival Radio Show.  I talked about the book that I co-authored with George Ure, 11 Steps to Living a Strategic Life.

You can listen to my interview with John Wesley Smith at this link:  Destiny Survival Radio for November 29, 2012 and you can read about it at Be a Better Prepper with 11 Steps to Living a Strategic Life.  Or both.

But wait.  Like Ron Popeil says, there is more.  On Monday night at 4PM Pacific (7PM Eastern), I will be the featured guest on “The Other Side of a Preppers Path” brought to you by American Prepper Radio and powered by Prepperbroadcasting.com.

Here is a teaser for you:

Other Announcements

Four hundred articles and counting.  Really!  The article 5 Things You May Not Have Thought of When Planning for an Emergency was article #400 here on Backdoor Survival.  Even I am impressed but more important, am looking forward to moving forward in 2013 as we move toward article #500.

How to Prepare for Most Emergencies on a $50 a Month Budget:  Bernie Carr at the Apartment Prepper’s Blog just published her new e-book, “How to Prepare for Most emergencies on a $50 a Month Budget”.  Watch for my review on Thursday, December 6.

This Week on Strategic-Living

In light of the recent Superstorm Sandy, George and I decided to put together an article on “Disaster Recovery Tools” for our Strategic Living website.  But the article is more than just a discussion of tools; it also includes tips and suggestions for actually using those tools following a major disaster.  Or a minor disaster, now that I think about it.

Click on Disaster Recovery Tools for Every Toolbox then go back and inventory your tool box.  Are you prepared?

The Blogroll aka Recommended Sites and The Honor Roll

For technical reasons, I have renamed Recommended Sites to “Blogroll”. The transition of this page is still a work in progress as I am trying to make a few changes each week without getting too bogged down. So please, pardon the dust and the disorganization.

The Final Word

Another busy week has gone by and I don’t know about you, but I am exhausted.  Radio shows (and The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 41 Backdoor Survivalprepping for those), more experiments with my DIY cleaners, survival reading, moderating comments, my J.O.B. and The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 41 Backdoor Survivalfor those of you that subscribe, my first Backdoor Survival newsletter, have all taken their toll.

Today I plan to kick back with my husband and enjoy the day.  Or, more succinctly, have some of that down time I talk about in 11 Steps to Living a Strategic Life.  The LOSTD (list of stuff to do) will just have to wait.

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Bargain Bin: With the holidays coming up, budgets are stressed to the limit.  Something to consider as a sneaky prepper gift for the non-prepper in your life is the Backdoor Survival Portable Pocket Kit.  Heck, for as little a $5, you can purchase a single item in the kit or for about $50, you can put the whole thing together yourself.  Something to think about, anyway.

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Need something from Amazon (and who doesn’t)? I earn a small commission from purchases made when you begin your Amazon shopping experience here. You still get great Amazon service and the price is the same, no matter what.

And just in time for the holidays, Amazon has a cool new promotion that can help you find great gifts for the holidays. It is called Shop Amazon – Most Wished For Items. This is great because when you go to the page it gives you a quick category overview, if you are looking for fashion, electronics, toys, etc., you can go right there first. This is a great tool to find gifts, but it’s also a great way to find products that people are ‘wishing” for and this way you know what the top products are.
