(Before It's News)

Last couple of days, Homer the calf hasn’t been up to snuff.  I know it’s from the change in milk replacer I just did to him.  I was running low and had to go pick some up.  The place I get it from did not have what I had been feeding so I had to buy another brand.  Well, that’s like changing baby food and the result is similar.  Poor Homer didn’t do so hot on the change.  Belly ache and the poops.  Homer isn’t even the slightest bit interested in feed yet so there wasn’t much I could do for him.  He came around a little bit last night and this morning, he drank about half what he normally does.  While I was cleaning up the mess, he did an end run around me and escaped.  No biggie, he’s been following me around like a puppy.  So, I ignored him and finished the job.  Then came the surprise.  Time to go back in his pen and he made a break for it.  Running and bucking in the freezing rain/snow and every time I got close, he took off again, kicked me in my knee as he went.  30 minutes and I’d had enough.  Little Homer got his first cowboy way style lesson.  I roped his little butt and back in his pen he went, kickin and fightin.  Of course once we were in there, I was his long lost Mommy and he loved me.  Stupid cow.

Goober has not moved any closer to calving.  She’s not filled her milk any more than what she originally did and she’s just happy as a clam in the birthing stall getting the twice a day meals and all the attention she desires.  Wish she would hurry up, I’m ready to make some real cheese!  Plus, it would cut my expenses greatly not having to buy milk replacer for Homer.  Thankfully, there’s still plenty of beer cans on the road to cash in on.

Molly goat is acting like she’s thinking about kidding soon.  Her bag is pretty full and she’s nesting.  She’s a good Momma and always has an excellent milk bag.  Plus, baby goats are just too cute, LOL

The weather here has been obnoxious.  Warm cold, rain then snow, freezing then thawed to make a sloppy mess.  It’s always like this here but I still despise it.   Mud just makes life unpleasant.

The chickens have finally come back around to laying.  Now all I have to do is beat the stupid dog to the eggs every day.  He’s better at the hidden egg hunt than I am and he likes eating eggs!  Eh, I can’t complain, it’s better than him eating the chickens!  There’s no mistaking he’s well fed with that shiny, soft coat.  Darn dog.

Now all I need is for the rabbits to get around to breeding and I will be in good shape for spring.  The seedlings are growing well and I may end up having to start new cucumbers since the ones I have are growing way too fast and will be producing in the container soon.  Cucumbers are one of my favorite fresh foods so early container production is not going to break my heart.  Just makes it tough to transplant them when they’re all vined out already.  Guess I got too excited too early this year.  Hardly a surprise tho, LOL

Well, off to bake some bread…….
