(Before It's News)

Note: my answers are in maroon…

Your website is the best survivalist and informational website I have found. While I am a type of survivalist and have a “bug out bag” etc. I see some areas that are not being covered or receiving attention that could greatly conflict with ACTUAL survival. Please note the items below. Are these addressed anywhere in your archives etc? These are important points that we should not be in denial about or uninformed about should we need to survive during a crisis.

1. IF the government wished to handle the population GUNS would not hold them off. They have many other ways not involving guns with which they could control anyone at all. Chemicals etc. It is a false security to think guns would help. Gas, chemicals etc. can be dropped from aircraft (or drones) and a gun could not stop that. No direct warfare would need to happen for a government or military group to contain or defuse individuals or even large groups. Just guns would seem pretty silly against that. ( And no, I do not believe the government has some secret plan to take away all our freedoms and “manage” us.) I just think preparing for such an imagined event wouldn’t work anyway even if it did happen.

Governments don’t usually attack their own population on a large-scale, instead they attack small groups or families to make an example of what could happen to others if they do not comply with the rulers demands.

If it were a head on fight between government and a small resistance movement the government would win easily. But smart resistance fighters would not go at it in that manner. They would blend in with the rest of the population – think Irish Republican Army type tactics

Anyway, I’ve never suggested armed resistance to governmental tyranny on my blog or in my books.

2. Guns with large clips and high-powered automatic guns to hold off groups of vandals. That won’t work either since the vandals could come into a home or site from several directions at once. One or two people could NOT hold them off for long. Another sense of false security. Plus, don’t you think the vandals would have automatics too?

Automatic weapons are mostly used by the military for suppressive fire tactics to keep the enemy’s head down as troops move to a better position. As for not being able to hold off looters with “large clips and high-powered automatic guns to hold off groups of vandals“, first I don’t have any automatic weapons only semi-auto and I’m sure most of use survivors will not be alone if we are attacked.

But really, I don’t get your point with the question – it reads like you think it would be better to not to fight or defend ourselves at all… Personally, I would rather take as many attackers down as possible, than to just hand my stuff, my butt and my life over to them.

And I think we’ll have a far better chance of defending ourselves with an AR-15 than a double-barreled shotgun or nothing at all don’t you?

3. People you know who are not prepared. I really, really doubt that many people would be able to deny a family with 2 little children food and watch them starve. Especially if the family only asked for food and did not try to take it. Are people prepared to be totally heartless during a crisis? Americans are not.

We have discussed putting together “charity packs” and helping others in need here before and we will help those that we can. But If helping others puts my loved ones at risk, then I will do what has to be done to end that risk.

4. People who are not prepared will become (at some point) desperate enough to do anything to survive or have their children survive. Anything. History has proven that time and again. Are any of us prepared to deal with humanity becoming animalistic?

Humans adapt. Those that don’t will die, if it gets to that point. Simple rule of survival – adapt or die.

5. Our mental and emotional ability to survive long term. Most people are NOT at all prepared to really be on their own. They may have “stuff” but not the emotional/mental tools to survive for a length of time. Human beings are social animals. To discount or to deny that is unwise.

Yep. Survival in a group is best and better than tying to go it alone. And we’ve not suggested here that anyone go out on their own, if not forced to do so. But if forced and have no other choice see number 4 above. Adapt or die.

6. Small groups of people working together. During crisis and survival–people who “seemed” fine may react in highly destructive ways. In these settings the danger most often comes from within the group. Remember all the Jim Jones and other type situations?

Could happen. But what is your question or suggestion. There are only two possibilities go it alone or join a group, for most of use our group will be our family, friends and neighbors so Jim Jones types probably won’t be an issue for most readers.

7. Survival OUTSIDE the societial norm is much more difficult than survival inside. Certain groups of people (like say the Amish) will do extremely well since they are already practiced up and have a formula for group survival. Unless a group of people have really tried out true survival–it may not work out at all as planned.

The Amish are good folks, but they do not believe in resistance and will become a target of the folks you mentioned above because of that belief.  As for “trying out true survival” I and most of the pack live as self-reliant as possible… And are capable of “going all out” when needed…

8. Is the person with the gun prepared to actually shoot to kill? A person who has never killed anyone may well not be able to do so. Plus the people who actually survive in a crisis are very often NOT the ones predicted to survive. Example: Women may survive very well while a big guy who was a marine may not. Happens often. What abilities we think lead to survival may well not be the ones that do help us.

While I can’t answer that question for anyone else – yes, I can shoot to kill if needed without hesitation or remorse. I have no apprehensions about doing what is needed to protect my loved ones or myself.

Playing a game called “survival” is of no use unless we honestly and squarely face ALL of the REAL difficulties and multiple complexities of true survival.

I would appreciate your comments or input and if you have already addressed some of this could you let me know where to find it?
