I have linked up with Stringtown Home for quite a while. Heather has always been so sweet and when she gave me the opportunity to become a cohost for the Tips and Tricks Linky Party, I was all in!
I mean, seriously, who in their right mind would turn that down??? 
Here I am today surrounded by all of these amazing women who are doing really creative things. I’m all like, “I’ve lost some weight? Does that count???” Yeah, probably not….
I was explaining this whole concept to my husband and he said, “So you’re going to do the whole ‘crafty thing’ again??? You’re not very crafty….but you do know how to lose a lot of weight.”
In the midst of all of the wonderfully creative women, I will be attempting something new!
With the holiday season approaching, I’m always looking for thoughtful ideas for the ones I love without spending a ton of money. You can still do something special for around $20.
I bought a 16 x 20 white canvas at Hobby Lobby (Don’t pay full price for these! You can always find a coupon on their website or on your smart phone.), some Elmer’s Glue Spray Adhesive, and some pink ribbon. You can easily upload a photo at Walmart.com and have them print off a poster sized print. I was a little concerned about the quality of the poster print, but when I picked it up it was perfect. I was worried that it would be on flimsy paper, but it was on quality photo paper.
When I got home, I laid the photo on top of the canvas. I wanted a little bit of the canvas to show around the edges of the photo to help seal everything up. Ryan trimmed the photo down 1/8″ on each side with a sharp utility knife.
I then sprayed the blank canvas with the Elmer’s adhesive. It was repositionable for about 15 seconds and Ryan helped me lay the photo on the canvas. We carefully smoothed it out and made sure it was centered properly. The glue needed to dry for about an hour, so I flipped it over and placed books on the back of the canvas for some weight.
After an hour, I flipped it back over and everything looked great. I spread glossy Mod Podge over the photo and used a foam brush to apply it evenly. I spread it from left to right and tried to get everything uniform. Yes, it will look like you just smeared white Elmer’s glue all over your photo. No, you have not ruined it! I promise it will dry clear. I let it dry overnight and then applied another coat. I made sure to seal the edges as well.
I tied a bow with the ribbon and Ryan stapled the ends to the back of the canvas. I love how it turned out!
I also did two 8 x 10′s of Caleb’s picture for my mom and mother-in-law. It’s really a simple project that ends up looking great. I am so glad I gave it a try! Normally, you would pay between $65.00 and $80.00 for a custom photo canvas this size. I pulled it off for around $20.00!
