The Amelie Cape!
Do you remember my talented friend Thouraya? She crafted C’s birthday quilt last April and is a regular part of the Keep Calm Craft On posts here. I always enjoy checking in on her work each week – her sewing skills never cease to amaze me! She recently told me she was releasing her very first PDF pattern, The Amelie Cape! After years of making these wonderful capes, she created a pattern so we can join in the fun too! I was excited for her and honored to be asked to sew an Amelie Cape of my own.
Unfortunately, life got in the way. I was really hoping to have a finished cape to share with all of you. But you see those piles of fabric above? Yes, I sort my fabric in rainbow order, don’t you?! Well, C is still deciding which two she wants me to make into her cape. I am guessing the pig fabric will be one of her choices, some of that soft flannel would make a nice and warm lining, too. I suppose I will just have to see what she chooses when she is ready to let me know.
This is modern design of a classic piece of children’s clothing and looks great for everyday or for special occasions. The cape is reminiscent of the fairy tales that Thouraya grew up on and is now in turn passing onto her children.
The pattern features four different variations and comes in two sizes 1-3 years and 2-6 years. The capes can be worn beyond these ages as a caplet – so they get plenty of wear! The PDF includes easy to follow instructions and both patterns. It is a great starter project for a new sewer and comes together quickly and easily.
