How To Convince Others To Prep

Sometimes it can be hard to convince your loved ones to prep. They’ll just roll their eyes and walk away probably thinking you’ve lost it. Your family members may find it difficult to understand why you prep. Maybe to them it is just a waste of money and that prepping is expensive and there are more important things to spend money on, etc. Perhaps your family doesn’t see the dangers that you can see which is why it is hard to convince them. Or perhaps you are doing the wrong way of convincing them to prep.

How can you convince your family that prepping is necessary especially in these unstable times we have now? Here are 4 ways:

  1. When convincing your loved ones to prep, do not scare them. You will never convince your family to prep and help you prep if you scare them. You have to think about how to make them understand your fears or the main reasons you are prepping. Giving examples of real life scenarios like hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquake, etc. can be a good start. A good, meaningful conversation might be all it takes to make your family start prepping so avoid the scare tactic.
  2. Aside from understanding, agreement is another key to convincing your family to start prepping. After making them understand how prepping enables your family to be ready for anything that may come, strike an agreement with them. Agree on how to go about your preps, what food and other survival items to stock, what firearms to have and how to secure firearms, etc. Be open about what your family thinks of prepping; if you listen to them, they are more likely to listen to you too.
  3. Teaching your family some skills about prepping can be a great experience. Gardening, hunting, fishing, cooking, building a fire and building a shelter or putting up a tent is some things that can be fun to learn.  Convince your family to do these things especially gardening and hunting for food. They might not agree about hunting for food, they might say ‘why should we have to go hunting when there is a grocery store?’ or ‘why should we have to learn gardening?’ Always expect them to question you or complain and prepare a rebuttal.EMP7
  4. Do not be afraid to tell your family about worst case scenarios like there might be a time where you will have to evacuate and leave your house and that you have to sleep on a tent or build a shelter. So that they will not be surprised if things like these will happen, some people doesn’t like to leave their house and sleep on a tent. Sleeping on a tent can be uncomfortable to some people. Still you have to convince your family the possibility of having to do things like these. Also, communicate to them how you need them to be prepared because you may not always be there with them. If the disastrous event happens and you are not with them, will they survive? Will they know what to do or panic with the rest?

You can face any kind of disaster when you prep with your family, remember two or more heads are better than one.
