Tips for Trapping & Hunting – How To Catch a Pile of Feral Hogs

America is being overrun with feral hogs. These hogs are the decedents of domestic hogs that are either released or have escaped their pens. They breed with wild hogs and since they have very few natural predators they wreak havoc on natural resources and the environment. They also cause an estimated $1.5 Billion dollars per year in damage to farmers crops and lands. They are in essence a troublemaking bunch of pests. There are literally millions of feral hogs ranging all over the southern United States. Instead of simply killing the hogs one by one, and ultimately losing the war between them and the farmers across the lands, catching them in small groups is much more efficient. Processing the meat into food then becomes much easier.

We certainly don’t want these guys trashing our gardens and farms, eating up our crops and destroying our hard work. We’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars and spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours build our off grid homesteads, gardens and farms and we cannot sit by while hogs destroy it all. This is an easy solution.

A note on catching animals for food. This could be sen as a controversial topic.

As homesteaders and practical people we understand that some people will not like the idea of eating wild pigs, and in fact that any animals are killed for food. This however is a fact of life and our society. People eat meat. Human beings are omnivores and we have evolved to eat both meat and vegetables. Meat is a staple food in the human diet. As such this will continue most likely until we find another way to feed ourselves as we evolve. In the mean time, pork chops and steaks, hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and fish fry’s will remain a part of American (and world) culture for hundreds of years to come.
