A few days ago I read an article about the US stock market and how similar today’s market is to 2008. The discussion went into a number of indicators that, having been there, done that, made me sit up and feel a sense of relief that I have done everything I can think of to put my financial house in order.
That said, there is always something more to do and I am always interested in learning new ideas for fostering financial preparedness. With that introduction, today I share the next author interview and book giveaway in the Backdoor Survival Prepper Book Festival 8.
Jim Cobb, the author of the Preppers Financial Guide, is back for an encore interview and shares his answers to some new questions. He is also providing one reader with a free copy of his book. More about that in a moment, but first, enjoy the interview then be sure to check in below to learn about the giveaway to win your own copy of the Preppers Financial Guide.
An Interview with Jim Cobb, Author of Prepper’s Financial Guide
Since it has been awhile since you answered this question, please tell us again what you are personally preparing for
Honestly, at this point I really don’t have a particular disaster in mind with regards to my own preparedness. Used to be, my “pet theory” was EMP. However, we face so many potential events today that I find it nearly impossible to place my bets on any specific one.
Fortunately, the preparedness planning for an EMP isn’t much different than that for, say, economic collapse.
In your opinion, what is the likelihood that the event you are preparing for will really happen?
I think the likelihood of “something” happening within the next 10 years or so is very strong. What it will be, I don’t know.
Here is a related question. Of all the events that are likely to occur, which situation do you feel you are least prepared?
A long-term medical crisis, such as a pandemic. That’s something I feel I personally need to work in on terms of getting better prepared.
What is your own personal #1 prep?
Knowledge.
Every single day, I am actively trying to learn new things. Due to a lack of time, that often entails not much more than reading and thinking but I’m trying to reorganize some areas of my life that will then offer me more time to practice skills and such.
If you were just getting started, what would you do differently?
I’d do more research on products rather than buying them just because they were endorsed by this or that person. I’d also try to be much more organized at the outset of my preparedness plans. It is rather difficult to try and organize in reverse.
Do you have some advice or a personal message you would like to pass on to Backdoor Survival readers?
I don’t care why you want to be better prepared. I care much more about the how of being better prepared.
Try to do just one thing every single day that will move you closer to your preparedness goals.
The Giveaway
The deadline is 6:00 PM Pacific next Tuesday with the winner notified by email and announced on the Rafflecopter in the article. Please note that the winner must claim their book within 48 hours or an alternate will be selected.
The Final Word
If the author, Jim Cobb, sounds familiar, it is because this is his fifth Book Festival. As a matter of fact, he is the only author so far to revisit Backdoor Survival and with good reason: his common sense, every-man (every-woman?) approach is easy to follow and easy to adapt to our unique circumstances.
Whether you are looking for a way to bring in a bit of extra income to fund your preps or determining what skills will help you in a barter economy, you will find solid suggestions in Jim’s latest book.
Note: Read the article, 2015 Is Starting To Look Remarkably Similar To The Stock Market In 2008. and you, too, will want to ramp up your path to financial preparedness.
Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!
