CANBERRA, Australia—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company drew a big crowd for its final Canberra performance on April 18 at the Canberra Theatre, part of its 2012 tour of Australia.

Retired Financial Analyst for the ACT Government, Peter Sydney, was in the audience with his wife enjoying the New York-based company’s revival of China’s 5,000-year-old, divinely-inspired culture.

Mr. Sydney said the show was very good and he was really enjoying it. “Magnificent! Lovely! It’s very spectacular, and the colours are quite magnificent,” he said. “The dancers are just supreme as well. So I’m really enjoying it. My wife and I are both enjoying it.”

Mr. Sydney loved the dance Lotus Leaves, in which, according to the program book, “behind the leaf of every lily pad lies a blossom waiting to bloom … .The dancers’ unique full-circle fans sway like lily pads in the wind, evoking scenes of a flowering lotus garden in the summertime.”

“And I loved the descending from the clouds and coming into real life,” Mr. Sydney said, describing the visual effects of the digital backdrop. At times dancers and the backdrop interact, with characters on screen seamlessly appearing on stage. “The backdrop, and then coming through and showing up as a real life character, it’s quite spectacular,” he said. “I haven’t seen that before. It’s very well done, so I really enjoyed that.”

Shen Yun’s digital backdrops and state-of-the-art graphics technology “are magical windows to different realms,” states Shen Yun’s website. “Projected behind the dancers, the hi-tech images lift the stage and set it amidst blossoming landscapes, deep forests, Mongolian prairies, or celestial paradises.”

Mr. Sydney said the performance conveyed a wonderful message. “It has tolerance, it’s part of the message I’m getting from the whole show, the importance of being tolerant to others, and enjoying life,” he said.

Mr. Sydney said that he would most certainly recommend the show to his friends to see next year.
