PARIS—Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company’s presented a one-off performance at the Palais des Congrès in Paris on Tuesday, April 10.
The highly acclaimed presentation was a welcome discovery for distinguished playwright, film and television script-writer and film co-producer, Michel Lengliney.
“This evening was a wonderful discovery,” he said. “It still is an ongoing great discovery because we are only at intermission.”
The New York-based Shen Yun is the today’s leading company portraying China’s five millennia history in classical Chinese dance and music.
The spectacular presentation, adapted from a repertory of China’s beloved legends, traditional, ethnic folk and contemporary stories, is supported by a full orchestral ensemble, hi-tech digital backdrops, hand-made costumes in radiant colors, vocalists and solo musicians.
“We are at the Convention Center, but we are sort of completely elsewhere,” Mr. Lengliney mused.
He said he was supposed to go to India but he was asked to delay departure.
“I am on an important project, but I am delighted to have seen this show,” he said, still astounded by the first part of the presentation he had just witnessed.
Mr. Lenglinley was not only touched by the physical of the Shen Yun performance, but also by its spiritual aspects.
“It’s very physical, but at the same time it is very spiritual,” he said. “Male and female dancers are magnificent, it’s so marvellous. It is a merger of physical achievement with spirituality and then there is the beauty, of course.”
Touched by the beauty of the costumes, the playwright said, “These costumes are magnificent and everything is set precisely to the millimeter, it’s really a great joy.”
Mr. Lenginley sensed that the inner beauty, as well as the exterior beauty of the artists.
“Anyway, I agree with both. I like to see inner beauty as well as outer beauty in someone,” he concluded.
