DAYTON, Ohio— Among those in the sold-out performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts on May 1 were Mary and Jean-Luc Caillet. “I love the way they move, I love the way they dance, I love the culture and I love everything. It’s just amazing,” Mrs. Caillet said of the traditional Chinese music and song she witnessed.

The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts‘ companies tour the world bringing the beauty and grace of traditional Chinese culture. More specifically, the company showcases classical Chinese dance, a dance system thousands of years in the making.

“We love it,” Mrs. Caillet, a retired French teacher said of the experience that she and her husband, a retired Vice President of Research at Emerson Electric, enjoyed. The couple, who enjoy cultural events, have been enjoying their recent retirement.

In its company Shen Yun has about a hundred performers composed of dancers, orchestra members and world-class soloists.

Mrs. Caillet appreciated song by baritone Qu Yue: “I liked the last song, the last piece by the baritone. It is actually a message of—I want to believe, of hope. We are in a place of turmoil, so I surely hope that people got the message, it was a pretty clear message to me.

“I love the past of China, it’s a very old culture … but we are all in the same boat, I guess, at this point, so we have to think ‘global’ more than anything else.”

She explained that she appreciated all the artistic messages the company brought, and “physically, psychologically, and musically that they can share.”

“I enjoyed that, I enjoyed that very much,” she said.

“We love the city and to have something like Shen Yun in Dayton, it’s wonderful! We love it!” she said.
