SYDNEY—Mr. Branko Kondic, National Sales Director of IT company Dataract, called the opening dance of Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company “Spectacular!” and said “the scenery, the drums, it was different and really good.”

Mr. Kondic was seeing the internationally acclaimed Shen Yun Performing Arts at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on Saturday evening, April 28.

In the opening piece, An Era Begins, the curtain opens to reveal a regiment of celestial soldiers, preparing for a battle between good and evil. Their enemy, a demon horde, abruptly combines to form a sinister red dragon, states the program.

“It’s uplifting, energizing and it makes you feel really good,” he added. “It really sets the scene for the whole performance.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in 2006 with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture, that was all but destroyed by 60 years of communist rule.

Mr. Kondic also enjoyed the story-based dance How The Monkey King Came To Be, saying that he was familiar with the story of the Monkey King.

“I grew up watching Monkey magic on TV and I could relate to the story,” he said. “It was something I understood and could appreciate where the story was coming from.”

Overall, Mr. Kondic said of the performance, “It’s great, it’s really good. There’s a lot of professionalism in the dancing, there are a lot of skills, and it’s very good.”

Also in the audience was Dr. Luca De Leonardis, Business Development Manager for the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sydney.

“It’s absolutely fantastic,” he said of the performance. “I really enjoyed the show.”

Dr. De Leonardis was glad he came, saying that in the past he had not had much opportunity to learn about the Chinese culture. “Tonight I had the opportunity to know a little bit [of Chinese culture] and [it opens the way] to go in depth in the future just to learn more about [this] amazing culture,” he said.

He said he loved everything about the show. “I love the artists, the performers, particularly the singers, the tenor and the soprano. The music it’s fantastic, the musicians are very very nice,” he said.

“The dancers are so good and the expression of their movements give to the show a very big added value,” he said.

Classical Chinese dance is rich with expressive power. Through expression of bearing and form, beautiful dance movements bring out the inner meaning of intrinsic thoughts and feelings, explains the company website.

Dr. De Leonardis said it is a fantastic show which he recommends to everyone.
