[ Watch the Video "Orion Spacecraft: Exploring Mars And Beyond" ]
Lee Rannals for redOrbit.com – Your Universe Online
Boldly going where no man has gone before is the drive behind NASA’s Orion spacecraft, and a new teaser video offers up just what the future might look like with it.
During the video, astronauts are seen suiting up as their rocket awaits for them to hop aboard and take a ride beyond low-Earth orbit.
The video takes the viewer through a simulation of what it will be like once the Orion spacecraft comes into play.
The spacecraft is designed to take astronauts beyond low-Earth orbit, which is something that hasn’t been done since the Apollo mission.
NASA has dreams of the spacecraft landing man on an asteroid, and even Mars in the far, but seemingly near future.
Orion is currently in its development and testing phase, but the space agency has spoken about landing man on Mars sometime within the next couple of decades.
The new NASA video mirrors an image similar to what took place in 1969 when the Apollo 11 astronauts boarded their spacecraft at Cape Canaveral on a trip to become the first men to step foot on the Moon.
Almost as if it’s more of a peek into the future rather than a simulation, the video, which can be viewed on redOrbit, is a look at what one day the world may see taking place at Cape Canaveral.
