Viral videos are becoming a weekly happening, and lately it’s a video spoof of NASA’s Curiosity mission called “We’re NASA and We Know It (Mars Curiosity).”

The new viral video has nabbed close to 2 million views since it hit the web on the Satire YouTube channel last Wednesday.

The video is a spoof of LMFAO’s “I’m Sexy and I Know It” song, featuring a mimic “Mohawk Man” and NASA crew.

The fake Mohawk Man imitates the NASA celebrity who became an Internet sensation after the agency’s successful Curiosity landing. The real Mohawk Man has even received praise from President Barack Obama on his hairdo after tons of press coverage of him at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory went viral.

During the spoof video, the mimic Mohawk Man spends his time rapping lyrics about NASA’s successful landing of its latest rover on Mars.

Forest Gibson, the director of the video, told redOrbit in an email that making the video was a “no-brainer.”

“We wanted to make a video that covered something relevant and had the potential to get lots of views,” Gibson told redOrbit. “Curiosity had just landed on Mars before our brainstorming session, so us making a video about it was a no-brainer.”

He said that the video has gotten plenty of press coverage, but that it wasn’t just Earth-dwellers who took notice of it.

“Nasa, Neil Degrasse Tyson, and the Mars rover herself tweeted out the video, we got tons of press, and have been very happy with over reception to the video,” he told redOrbit.

All of their goals aren’t accomplished yet though, Gibson said they hope NASA uses its videos as part of the morning ritual for its astronauts.

“I’d say if there was one more thing we could get with it, it would be for NASA to use our music as the wakeup call for the ISS Astronauts one morning,” Gibson told redOrbit.

“I thought the visual style of the original LMFAO video was extremely interesting and I was excited about the challenge of trying to reproduce it,” he continued. “Other than that, we are just a bunch of people who love making videos, and are in-between seasons of producing our web series, Job Hunters.”
